Beautiful Lane Tuxedo dresser / credenza. You are right if you are thinking that it was manufactured in the 1960’s by the Lane company of Virginia. It belongs to the Tuxedo / bow tie line which it is known for having a couple of lines and bowties inlay on the tops and handles that resemble bow ties as well. This beautiful piece has been refinished and now features a shiny new walnut color. You can see in the pictures that it reflects what it’s around it. Minor signs of its old life are still in it just so you don’t forget that these pieces are the real deal and brave survivors of many years. It has 6 drawers to store all of your belongings. It is coming to you from the original owner. A gentleman that worked for the Lane company and that furnished his house with the pieces that his company made. He and his wife got married in the 60’s so they had the opportunity to furnish the entire home with Mid-Century Modern pieces, how lucky ha?!

History of Lane

In March of 1912 a man named John Lane purchased a box plant in Altavista, Virginia. His son, Ed Lane, was 21 at the time and had little manufacturing experience. Ed was encouraged by his father to try his hand at starting a chest factory in the newly acquired plant. The Lanes didn’t know how successful their new venture was going to be, therefore, they didn’t start out putting their name on it. Instead, they incorporated the little company as the Standard Red Cedar Chest Company, with John Lane as President and Ed Lane as Vice President and General Manager. From cedar chests, Lane expanded to occasional tables in 1951, case goods in 1956, and accent pieces in 1965.
